Philosophy of Ministry

Theological Covenant Hall is committed to the importance of a theological approach to a Christian worldview. Worldview questions must be answered in the light of the teachings of Scripture. Questions about individual disciplines must also be answered theologically. Rather than beginning with the application of isolated verses to individual disciplines, the starting point for discipline integration must be the application of major theological truths to those disciplines.
Theocentric Covenant Hall is committed to the idea that a Christian worldview will be necessarily God-centered. Too often, interest in developing a Christian view of the world we live in produces a perspective that centers around that world. Any worldview that is truly Christian will emphasize the priority of that which is spiritual and eternal over that which is material and temporal.
Reformed Covenant Hall is committed to Reformed theology. It is impossible to hold a consistently supernaturalistic view of science without acknowledging that God is sovereign over physical processes. It is equally fatal to a Christian view of history to ignore that God is sovereign over the actions and decisions of men. Such a view would relegate God's influence in history to such things as parting the Red Sea or keeping the sun up for Joshua and would ignore such specific Scripture as Proverbs 21:1 which affirms that, "The kings's heart is in the hand of the Lord. Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes."
Presuppositional Covenant Hall is committed to approaching every area of life and ministry from specifically biblical foundations. The academic community claims to work from a religiously neutral foundation. Covenant Hall will challenge that pretense and the naturalistic assumptions that underlie it from intentionally acknowledged Christian presuppositions. God's inerrant word is our starting point.
Irenic Covenant Hall is committed to relating peacefully to others. Paul wrote, "If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men" (Romans 12:18). While we recognize the reality and importance of the present culture wars, Christians are to recognize that "we do not wrestle against flesh and blood" (Ephesians 6:12); "we do not war according to the flesh;" and "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:3-4). Covenant Hall will not be hostile but friendly toward both non-Christians and other Christians who hold different views, yet will do so without compromise, "speaking the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15).
Wise & Foolish Covenant Hall is committed to trying to "speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age" (1 Corinthians 2:6). In this effort we recognize that "the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing" (1 Corinthians 1:18). Our intention to maintain academic credibility does not entail compromise with worldly wisdom to secure academic respectability, for "the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God" (1 Corinthians 3:19).
